My Xeomin Experience | Jawline Slimming & Brow Lift

Come behind-the-scenes with me through my Xeomin treatments!

My Experience With Xeomin

I’ve recently had a couple of Xeomin treatments at Entière Dermatology to not only help with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but to slim down the muscles in my jawline. I have always believed it is so important for women to do whatever they want to do to make themselves feel beautiful, and cosmetic treatments like Botox, Xeomin, or even fillers are no exception.

As someone who has always been a little insecure about the appearance of my jaw, I was instantly intrigued when I heard that Xeomin was a great solution to lessen the over-developed masseter muscles. After seeing Dr. Levin twice already, I moved on with a consultation to get her most professional advice on what else she thought I needed. I have now received treatments in my upper forehead and crow’s feet area and can officially say I am sold on the natural-looking and subtle effects of Xeomin.

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin is a form of botulism toxin that is injected into the face and used to block muscle movement in areas that contribute to wrinkles. Unlike other neuromodulators, Xeomin does not have certain accessory proteins around the botulinum toxin molecule. This means that theoretically, you might have less of a reaction to Xeomin.

Neuromodulators block nerves from signaling to the underlying muscles to soften contraction. These toxins are all derived from safe, highly purified, and controlled doses of botulinum toxin. Dr. Levin from Entière Dermatology uses multiple types of neuromodulators in her office, but believes Xeomin to be the perfect happy medium.

Xeomin Vs. Botox or Dysport

In order to decide which neuromodulator to use, make sure to have a consultation with your doctor. In her office, Dr. Levin uses different types of neuromodulators depending on the area treated and what the needs are. Every person responds differently to the varieties of neuromodulators, so it tends to become a personal preference.

When it comes to the masseter muscles, Dr. Levin prefers using Xeomin. Xeomin looks more natural and has less accessory proteins around the neuromodulator so you have less for your body to develop antibodies to. For the upper face, Dr. Levin prefers Xeomin or Botox because of their preciseness. Dysport tends to be a favorite for underneath the arms because it’s a more infused neurotoxin that helps with sweat.

The Procedure

Before getting any treatments, you always will get your photos taken to track your progress. Photos are so important to fully see all the subtle changes that can happen to your face in the process of treatments. So, before the procedure, we took some photos, and then I was ready for my first treatment.

The first procedure I had done was injecting Xeomin in the enlarged masseter of my face to reduce the size of my jawline muscle. Due to the unevenness of the muscles, Dr. Levin injected 40 units of Xeomin on the left side and only 27 units on the right side of my jaw. Overall, I barely felt any pain and just a little bit of a pinch. Fun fact: The Xeomin needle is actually smaller than an acupuncture needle!

The next procedure I had done was using Xeomin to reduce forehead wrinkles, lift the eyebrows, and reduce the crow’s feet. This procedure made me a little nervous because it was a new territory for me, but overall Dr. Levin made me feel so comfortable. After getting injected, my skin reacted with little bumps. I joked that I looked like I was stung by a bee, but Dr. Levin explained that it was just the liquid settling into the skin and that it would be gone in about an hour. Actually, in about 15 minutes, my face was completely back to normal and I was ready to walk out the door.

What to Expect After Treatment

It takes about 1-2 weeks to see the full effect. Different parts of the upper face will soften at different rates, so it is completely normal to see asymmetries at first. After the initial treatment, Dr. Levin schedules a complimentary follow-up at 2 weeks after the treatment for any small tweaks if needed.  It’s also important to remember that you should avoid bending forward, getting a massage, napping, putting your face into a pillow, or strenuous exercise 4 hours after treatment.

My Results

At my 2-week follow up, I was blown away by my results. We took some final photos so that Dr. Levin and I could visually see the progress, and I could not believe the difference that 2 weeks had made. The first thing I noticed was how awake I looked! The procedure had naturally lifted my eyebrows and relaxed the bags underneath my eyes. It almost looked as if I was wearing concealer in my after photos! I also took note of how less sunken down my face looked. Even if I were tired, I would wake up with a more lifted, youthful-looking glow. My partner even noticed how much more vibrant my face was!

As for my jaw, the results could not fully be seen in 2 weeks. For bigger muscles like the masseter, it takes about a month for the Xeomin to take full effect. With that being said, I still noticed a difference in the muscles of my jaw. They had toned down and felt much more relaxed.

Overall, the best part of the results had to be how subtle they were. I absolutely loved the differences because they were super noticeable to myself, but not too dramatic to anyone else. I felt and appeared naturally more youthful, and I can’t wait to return in 4-6 months!

And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed a behind-the-scenes experience for my Xeomin treatment!
