My Experience With Laser Hair Removal
I’ve been getting laser hair removal treatment on my legs and Brazilian area for over 2 years and thought I’d share my experience to educate you on what it’s like and why I prefer it over other hair removal methods like shaving and waxing. If you’ve ever thought about getting laser hair removal or wanted to learn more about it, read on as I share some of my top tips to help make your laser hair removal experience a smooth and easy one!
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is an almost pain-free way to eliminate hair and not have to worry about them in the future. I prefer getting laser treatments over shaving because as soon as you shave, it grows back coarse, thick and darker. Shaving also requires a ton more maintenance and who really has time for that? In terms of waxing, it’s just painful and it also requires an endless amount of maintenance. But, when you go through your laser sessions, you can eventually stop the treatments because it actually permanently removes your hair.
I have been going to Infinity Laser Spa in NYC to get laser hair treatments on my legs, including my thighs, calves, knees and my Brazilian area. I’ve had about 10 to 12 Brazilian sessions done and the difference that I’ve noticed is that my hair is much thinner. It still grows back in different places but it will eventually be gone as I continue my treatment. The hairs on my legs are practically gone and I’ve noticed that it takes a really long time for the hair to grow back. This is a sign that the treatment is working and doing its job!
When I entered the treatment room, I was given protective laser goggles to help protect my eyes from the laser. After taking off my pants and putting on my protective glasses, I was ready to get started!
My laser technician started off by applying a cooling gel in my first area of treatment, which was my legs. The cooling gel is the same type of gel that is used when you get an ultrasound. As the tech went back and forth with the laser gun on my skin, it started off warm and it progressively got hotter and hotter. I started feeling sudden jolts of pain that felt like hot pinches because of the heat coming from the laser. The pain only lasted a few seconds so it wasn’t as bad as I made it out to be. I feel like most of the pain is mental because every second that went by, I seemed like I was just psyching myself out from the fear of getting burned.
The laser treatment on my legs took no more than 10 minutes and after I was done, it was time to move onto my Brazilian area!
I was asked to lay down on my back with my legs spread open into a butterfly position. Compared to my legs, the Brazilian treatment was just as hot, and it was definitely more sensitive. I felt that the lower the tech went with the laser gun, the more sensitive it got. Typically, when you start your laser treatment sessions in the beginning, it hurts the most for 7 to 8 sessions consecutively. And that’s because the more hair you have in the area, the more painful it will be. Now that I was on my 10th to 12th session, I was able to withstand the pain a bit more as the hair is much thinner and more sparse.
After the front side of the Brazilian was done, I laid on my stomach to get my inner butt area done. I was asked to spread my butt cheeks wide to make way to access the hair. After the treatment was done, the tech wiped off the remaining residue from the gel and I was as smooth as a baby’s butt!
Laser Hair Removal Tips
Here are some helpful tips that you can take away for your next laser hair removal treatment!
- You must shave the night before or 24 hours before your laser treatment.
- You cannot have laser treatments if you are pregnant.
- Avoid laser treatment if you are breastfeeding.
- Birth control can make your laser treatments less effective.
- You can get laser treatment while on your period. Just be nice and stick a tampon up there so it doesn’t turn into a bloody mess. Your skin will be more sensitive to pain during your period so its better to avoid it if you can. (Unless you’re a tough noogie like me!)
- Don’t shave for at least 10 days after your laser treatment.
- Laser treatment works best on dark hair and pale skin.
