A Singapore Travel Guide

Singapore is one of South East Asia’s most fascinating destinations. It is a diverse island, a real melting pot of Asian culture and excitement, and there really is something for everyone, even the most discerning of travelers. Whether you have just 24 hours during a stopover to somewhere else or have a week to explore, now is the time to pack your bags and plan a visit to this city. Let our Singapore travel guide show you why!

It is located off the southern coast of Malaysia and is a futuristic urban sprawl, rich with experiences around every corner. A Singapore postal code is one of the most prosperous and desirable in the world, but it doesn’t matter if you are traveling in luxury or on a shoestring budget – you will find plenty of things to do. Are you ready to fall in love with this unique destination?

When Is The Best Time to Go?

The weather in Singapore is almost perfect, as long as you like warm weather! The tropical climate means heat and humidity all year round, but it is not as bad as in some places in Asia, like Thailand, where the summer temperatures can reach up to a whopping110 degrees Fahrenheit!  In Singapore, the wet season runs from November to January, but there is really not much of a difference in the temperatures. Temperatures stay roughly between 75 and 88 degrees Fahrenheit.

It is important to bear in mind that Singapore can be expensive around major holidays such as the Chinese New Year, so you may want to think about planning your trip when prices may be lower.

How Much Money Will You Need?

Of course, this does all depend on your style of traveling. If you are looking for high-end hotels and restaurants, you will need a lot – as we said above, Singapore is notorious for being expensive. However, if you are doing it on a budget and backpacking, you can do it for around $60-$100 a day.

How Can You Explore the City?

The public transport system in Singapore is a travelers dream! It takes you just about anywhere you need to go and runs smoothly and efficiently, making getting around the city hassle-free. To save both cash and time, we recommend checking out a Singapore tourist pass, which gives you unlimited travel. It is a wallet-friendly electronic smart card that allows you to use the island’s extensive train system and public bus network to take in all the attractions Singapore has to offer. It costs around $10 SGD a day ($7.50 USD). Taxis in Singapore are convenient but can be very expensive, especially as Uber no longer operates in the city. The alternative is Grab, which works in the same way, so think about downloading the app before you go.

What is There To Eat?

If there is one thing worth visiting Singapore for, it is the food. The cuisine in the city is to die for, combining all the different Asian specialties and traditions and creating something like nowhere else on earth. It is home to the cheapest Michelin starred restaurant in the world, but you don’t have to eat there to find good food. We recommend checking out some of the street hawkers where the locals get their food from. Be sure to try out Singapore specialties such as chili crab, chicken rice and laksa – a spicy noodle soup!

Where Should You Visit?

Although Singapore is a relatively small city, there are plenty of things to do, whatever your interests, from enjoying the many rooftop bars and pools, to the cultural highlights of the city. If you want to take a tour of the city, we recommend booking a local Singapore city tour which shows you around the very best bits of the city. Alternatively, you can also book a segway city tour or explore and wander around on your own, visiting some of the iconic attractions that we have listed below:

This is perhaps one of the most famous landmarks and highly recommended attractions in our Singapore travel guide. It beautifully combines the urban and natural by housing the world’s largest greenhouse, the world’s largest indoor waterfall and an astounding collection of giant supertrees. If there is just one place that you visit on your trip, it should be here.

Other Bits and Pieces to Think About

Stick to happy hour -Alcohol is expensive in Singapore. Cocktails will set you back around $22 SGD ($16.50 USD), while a beer in a trendy downtown bar can be around $10 SGD ($7.50 USD). However, if you visit a bar during happy hour  – 5 pm to 9 pm, you can usually find some great deals on all sorts of drinks.

Drink the tap water – The tap water is perfectly safe to drink in Singapore, so there is no need to spend money on buying bottles of water. Just remember to take your own refillable bottle.

You don’t have to tip – Tipping is not really a part of Singapore’s culture. The staff certainly do not expect it, so don’t feel obligated to leave one. However, if you are genuinely pleased with the service, they are definitely appreciated!

Hopefully, our Singapore travel guide will make your visit a little easier and a little more enjoyable!

Xoxo,

Kasey
