4 Must Go-To Spots in New York City This Summer

My Love with The Garment District

Alas, I am writing about one of my favorite districts in New York City again – the Garment District. Having worked in the area upon graduating NYU, it has always been my home away from home. Whenever I get off the NJ transit bus at Port Authority and stroll East throughout the neighborhood, I get a whiff of nostalgia. The smells of the food and sweet alcohol emanate my nose while I window shop at some of my favorite stores. (If you haven’t already, check out my last post where I talk about my love for the neighborhood and the “4 Must Try Restaurants and Bars in the Garment District“.

Urban Garden

Urban Garden – Broadway between 39th-41st

However, recently, I noticed there was something different about the area. Sometime in mid-June, I was walking through to tackle my day when all of a sudden, I noticed some colorful street art beneath my toes. Two blocks on Broadway were completely cut off from street traffic and it seemed like the area was only open to pedestrians who wanted to relax in the middle of the bustling city. So, after I took some cute photos with the vibrant streets, I did relax and treated myself to some ice cream sandwiches from the UrbanSpace food market. It was a nice break to have on my busy day.

Over the next couple of weeks, I wound up exploring the bars and restaurants once again throughout the Garment District…but this time, focusing on rooftop bars and places with delicious drinks, bites, and great atmospheres for the Summertime.

Refinery Rooftop – 63 W. 38th St, New York, NY 10018

First up, is the beautiful Refinery Rooftop. Known for its beautiful Garden-esque interior and views of the Manhattan skyline and Empire State building, this rooftop bar is a must-visit.

Being in fashionable Midtown, I felt right in place with my chic and luxurious outfit that perfectly matched the interior of the bar. The walls were made of warm, red brick that blended nicely with the wooden ceilings and stone-tiled floors.

To go along with the pretty vibes, I ordered the Baby Doll cocktail which consisted of Absolut Elyx vodka, watermelon, lemon, and pineapple…and of course, with a flower on top J (which made such an #Instaworthy shot!). I almost got the FrosΓ©, which not only has rosΓ©, orange cordial, and lemon, but it is also their monthly featured cocktail that benefits a worthy cause! This month, proceeds from each FrosΓ© are donated to the Alzheimer’s Association. When I saw that on the menu, I thought it was really beautiful that this option was there.

All in all, Refinery Rooftop never disappoints, so I highly recommend all stylish ladies and gentlemen to go and visit this treasure.

The Skylark

The Skylark – 200 W. 39th Street, 30th Floor, New York, NY 10018

Another rooftop I would highly recommend is The Skylark. If you want the most beautiful and modern vibes both inside and out in the sun, this is the place to be. I had never been here before, so when I arrived, I was told to go upstairs to find the rooftop. Little did I know that I entered this vast 2,000 square foot room that was decorated with gorgeous lighting, sleek leather couches, and a full bar. I could not believe how gorgeous this place was! And, to top it all off, right outside the window was a breathtaking, panoramic view of Times Square, the Hudson River, and Midtown Manhattan. I was in awe.

I then walked straight down to the right of the bar to find the entrance to the rooftop. When I finally got there, it was super crowded since it was happy hour, but boy, was the VIEW worth it! With the rooftop’s glass walls, there was an unblocked view of the Empire State Building and the rest of Manhattan.

The Skylark Pool Room

Before I left, I was delighted to find the Pool Room which also had as gorgeous views as the rootftop. The Room was super intimate and apparently, the pool table could be converted into a dining table. This intimate and multi-purpose room would be perfect for small and meaningful events.

I definitely need to come back to The Skylark and reexperience everything again. This bar was definitely one of the most stunning places I’ve ever been to in New York City and I feel like I could spend hours in this luxury space.

Parker & Quinn – 64 W. 39th St, New York, NY 10018

And lastly, if you want to get away from all the summer heat and opt for more vintage vibes, Parker and Quinn is a must go-to. I came here once after work a few years back, but it wasn’t until now that I really got to experience it firsthand.

As I walked in with my friends, I requested the table right next to the open kitchen in the back so I could be close to all the action. I love open kitchens because it really shows that the restaurant is confident in its chefs and the concept in itself instills a sense of trust in who’s preparing your food.

At the time, I was starving as it was way past lunchtime, and since I’m a sucker for pizza, I had to get the Margherita flatbread as soon as I saw it on someone else’s plate. To make myself feel better about the load of carbs and cheese I was going to shortly ingest, I also opted for a Caesar Salad. Both dishes were delicious and I really enjoyed watching my pizza being made in the brick oven!

And can we talk about the dΓ©cor? The vintage vibes were unreal and I loved how the walls were a mix of black tiles, damask wallpaper, and carved-out concrete. The placement of the uneven brass-colored, picture frames by the front bar also put a nice touch to the atmosphere.

Overall, Parker and Quinn was an enjoyable experience and this place is a great alternative to the rooftop bars for those who want to stay out of the sun.

And that’s it! I hope you guys enjoyed my review of the summer rooftop and indoor bars that you MUST visit in the Garment District. Summer in NYC can be so enjoyable, you just need someone to tell you where to go ;). Happy Summer!
