Life Is A Simple Formula

My, it’s getting chilly over here in New York City! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and safe travels. I am good on the free and fattening turkey leftovers for weeks. For that, I am extremely thankful :-D. Thankful for this delicious (gluttonous) holiday, and for the time to be with family and friends.
Do you ever feel like you just want to slap everyone’s face that passes by just because everything is just pissing you off? Sometimes, I can be in such a bitter mood and can find anything in the world to complain about. ‘Oh, my commute was 15 minutes longer today because some stupid conductor said there was train traffic,’ says every New Yorker as they take the subway to work every morning during rush hour. ‘I am so f*cking exhausted after work, I don’t ever have the time to work out and here I am just getting fatter by the second!’ says everybody with a desk job. And the most dreadful and painful one of all, ‘I hate my life.’
Well, let me tell you. Life is a precious thing and life is comprised of a simple formula. If you don’t like your life, then change it. Subtract the bad, add the good, and then multiply. Do something about your life if you are unhappy. You are in control of your own destiny. Be grateful for what you have, instead of continuing to bathe yourself in a pool of self-pity. No one wants to participate in your pity-party, especially not when you’re the host.
Start by writing down a list of things that make you happy – and try to make it long. Here’s a list of 50 things that make me happy (in no particular order):
- My boyfriend
- My dog
- My parents
- My brother
- My friends
- My hamster
- My singing talent
- My clothes
- My shoes
- My bags!
- My blog
- My job
- Music
- New York City
- New Jersey (the suburbs where I grew up)
- My tattoo
- My nails (when done)
- FOOD, FOOD, FOOD
- Working out
- Writing
- Money
- Yoga
- Gym classes
- Dancing
- The summer
- Blue flowers
- Walk-in closets
- The New York City skyline
- Water
- Swimming – competitively and for fun
- Hot tubs
- The beach
- Animals
- Aquariums
- My piano/keyboard
- My health
- My independence
- My ability to have tanned skin and look Hawaiian, or Spanish, or Filipino (yes, I’ve been called all of these in the summer time)
- Electricity
- Makeup
- Air conditioning
- Heat
- My ability to imitate Britney Spears’ singing voice
- My camera
- My roof
- The stars (when I can see them, haha)
- Water
- Elevators
- My cellphone
- Making other people smile
Wow…the first 20 items were fairly easy to spit out – it was the 30 other spaces that became more difficult to fill. This shows that every day, unless I really sit down and think about those 30 other things, I overlook what truly makes me happy. I definitely will be doing this more often. When will you start?
Me being silly!
