NYFW Day 1: 6 Shows and Counting
The Busiest Day of My Life!
Now, for the moment you’ve all been waiting for (oh, so anxiously, so sorry….been so busy) *drumroll please* …my recap of NYFW Day 1!
I wasn’t kidding about taking some mental notes to be prepared for NYFW, by the way. You can read about my NYFW tips HERE to save yourself next time (or to laugh at me, whatever suits your fancy). Unfortunately, on my first morning, I already had made my first mistake. I left late from my apartment, and because there was an insurmountable amount of traffic, I basically missed my 1st show. Lovely start to a NYFW right? Well, we all make mistakes here and there – I am vowing to myself to never make them again!
Nonetheless, I missed the wonderful show of Nicholas K, but I was able to obtain these breathtaking photos of his work.
This guy is definitely a bold one – mixing his grunge-like style with lightweight fabrics and asymmetrical trims. The colors of his SS ‘17 collection were natural and earth-toned, yet there was a sort of metallic shimmer to the fabrics. It seemed as though he was trying to challenge every concept with its contrast and he had managed to brilliantly harmonize the opposing sides. (Shop Nicholas K below).
Next on the agenda was the wonderful Noon by Noor. This collection was the polar opposite of Nicholas K’s. Lots of blushes, creams, whites, and the occasional blacks glided down the runway. There was a feeling of serenity as I observed each beautiful piece. Some of them looked so lightweight, sheer, lace-y, and comfortable that I would have mistaken some pieces for extremely luxurious pajama sets. Kudos to Noon by Noor. (Shop Noon by Noor below)
After lunch time and in-between-show mingling with other bloggers and photographers, it was time for the Aussie’s to present their Swim/Resort SS 2017 collection. After being super jealous of their perfect bods, butts, and boobs – I was in awe of how wearable all of the designs were. I actually envisioned myself wearing some of these swimsuits and thought, “Yeah man, I’d totally buy and rock that.” Minus all the pizza I’ve been stuffing in my belly. #goals.
Then finally, one of my favorite shows of the day was beginning…Desigual! As I was running late from my other show trying to rush to my seat, I passed by and accidentally knocked into a couple of photographers on the runway. As I sat in my seat, I saw that a man glared at me…and that man was the well-known fashion photographer and judge on America’s Next Top Model, Nigel Barker. Oh, boy. Here Kasey goes again making a show of herself. Next to him, I saw the beautiful Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach, Miss USA Deshauna Barber, and Miss Teen USA Kamie Crawford.
As the Desigual show started, I noticed that in almost all of my iPhone pictures, Nigel was in the background as the models strutted down the runway. Haha!
The Desigual designs were absolutely striking. There were tribal, animalistic, and bohemian styled prints integrated into flattering and feminine silhouettes. As the press has stated, the designer “celebrated independence and creativity with a collection inspired by the ‘global traveller’.” The runway was filled with lots and lots of colors and mixed patterns. My favorite few pieces were the denim and floral ones (shown in the above pictures).
After Desigual, I went back to Pier 59 studios and saw the Australian Ready-To-Wear SS ‘17 Collections of Fashion Palette. Each designer showed off their beautiful RTW collections. The show had an overall elegant feel with many pastels upon long flowy gowns. A few notable designers were Sabo Luxe, Con Ilio, and Bossa.
Then, came my last show at 8pm – The Arts Institutes. This has to be one of my favorite shows each Season during NYFW because of the type of designers behind the scenes. Every year, a select group of student designers from The Arts Institutes have the opportunity to showcase their designs. And never in a million years would I think these designs were crafted by the hands of young, emerging designers. Give the show another name, and I would have thought that every single piece was created by designers with decades of experience. I couldn’t believe my eyes! My favorites were the collections of Mimmy Begazo, Esther Ashiru, and Maria D’Ocon. Unfortunately, my battery ran out during this show, so refer to this video to see a recap.
And that was my entire first day (and night) of NYFW Fall 2016! It was by far my longest and most tiring day I’ve ever had in a long time, but it was so worth it. Again, sorry for the delay in posts. I’ve been so busy and exhausted trying to balance my new job and my blooming blogging life. Stay tuned for more recaps of my other shows!
